Game Recap

It didn’t take long for the Rockford Christian varsity baseball team to get back on track after a tough loss on Thursday. The Royal Lions pounded out 13 hits en route to a 9-4 victory over Beloit Memorial on Saturday.

A double by Nolan Gazouski and a sacrifice fly from Alec Powell propelled the Knights to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. The visitors then tallied three times in the fourth and fifth innings to build a commanding 8-0 lead.

Neil Thomas walked and scored on a bloop single by Braxton Santolino to start the fourth. Bryan Truitt then doubled to put runners on second and third with one out. Dave Prisby hit a RBI grounder to score Santolino and Jake McClellan singled to score Truitt for a 5-0 lead.

In the fifth, Truitt lined a two-run single to right, scoring Gugle and Neil Thomas, who had singled to start the inning. McClellan doubled to lead off the sixth and scored on a triple by Gugle to finish the scoring for the winners. Bryan Truitt finished with three hits, while Gugle, McClellan and Thomas finished with two apiece.

Alec Powell picked up his sixth win of the season, allowing only one hit over 3.2 innings before leaving with a sore foot. McClellan pitched 2.1 innings and Gazouski shut the Knights down in the seventh.
