Meet Recap

Richmond, Illinois — The Royal Lions finished second in the Big Northern East Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Thursday, May 12. It is the program’s best team finish during the school’s four year tenure within the conference. Burlington Central won the team title with 148 points. Rockford Christian won 5 events.

Quinn Halversen (Jr.) dominated the conference as the only athlete to win three events. In the field, he won both the long and high jump leaping 20′ 6″ and 6′ 5″ respectively. On the track, he anchored the winning 4x200m.

Nick Monkemeyer (Sr.) won the 3200m in windy conditions running 10:06.39.

The 4x200m unit of Jacob Kennay (So.), Nick McMahon (Sr.), Chase Roche (Jr.), and Halversen were victorious running 1:32.93.

Finally, the 4x400m consisting of Brian Smith (Sr.), Jack Smith (Sr.), Monkemeyer, and Josiah Vogel (So.) crushed the field by four seconds and led from start to finish.

The following athletes earned BNC All-Conference honors:
Quinn Halversen: HJ, LJ, 4x200m
Nick Monkemeyer: 3200m, 4x400m
Jacob Kennay: 4x100m, 4x200m, 200m
Nick McMahon: 4x100m, 4x200m, 200m
Brian Smith: 400m, 4x400m
Josiah Vogel: 800m, 4x400m
Chase Roche: 4x100m, 4x200m
Jack Smith: 4x400m

There were many other excellent performances from RCSTF athletes. Brady Irwin (Sr.) jumped 6′ 3″ and took second in the high jump. Riley Wells (Fr.) ran 4:35.88 and finished third in the 1600m. The 4x800m relay of Chris Roegner (Sr.), Ben Peterson (Sr.), Lance Hainchek (So.) and Wells finished second place running under the IHSA 1A qualifying standard in 8:29.90.

Pat McMahon (Sr.) ran a personal best of 16.60 in the 110m hurdles. Noah Fulcomer (Fr.) dropped from 18.03 to 16.77 in the high hurdle race, as well. Will Mecklenburg (Jr.) broke 11:00 for the first time in the 3200m even in face of the windy conditions. In the pole vault, Toby McIntosh (So.) and Ben Thomas (So.) both cleared 10′ 1″ for new personal bests. Pablo Jimeno (Sr.) ran a person best 12.39 in the 100m.

The Royal Lions will compete next at the IHSA 1A Sectional hosted by Oregon High School on Friday, May 20. Meet information including start times, rosters, and heat sheets will be posted early next week.
