Meet Recap

Oregon, Illinois — The Royal Lions had a spectacular day of track and field at the 40th Annual Art Carlson Hawk Classic. The team finished second, scored 85.5 points, won three events, broke a meet record, and had highest team finish ever for the program. Polo-Forreston won with 98.5 points in the twenty team invitational.

The 4x800m unit of Brian Smith (Sr.), co-captain Nick Monkemeyer (Sr.), Josiah Vogel (So.), and Riley Wells (Fr.) kicked the running events off with a blazing 8:01.76 breaking the meet record by 7 seconds. The quartet dominated the field and defeated the sconed place team by over 20 seconds. Their mark is currently the fastest in the IHSA 1A division and #77 in the nation. Splits were 2:00.9, 2:00.7, 2:00.8, and 1:59.2. The group was also less than 1 second away from the school record set in 2011 at the state meet.

In the 1600m Wells finished took first place with a personal record of 4:29.18.

Finally, the high jump was won by co-captain Brady Irwin’s 6′ 4″ leap.
