On Saturday, October 10 the Rockford Christian middle school cross country teams traveled to Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois to compete in the IESA 2A Sectional meet. Both the boys and girls teams ran their best races of the season over the 2 mile distance to place second and qualify for the IESA 2A State Meet at Maxwell Park in Bloomington, Illinois next Saturday.

The girls team was lead by Elianna Vogel. The seventh grader’s time of 11:55 is a school record. Vogel was followed by Renate Toldo (12:58), Maya McMillian (13:03), Kelly Giardina (13:05), Gracie Kreissler (13:56), Brandie Haas (14:11), and Isabella Bui (14:32). All seven of the girls broke into the Rockford Christian top 25 all-time performances with personal records.

The boys team also went 7 for 7 with personal records and was lead by Carter Fryer’s time of 11:03, making him the second fastest Royal Lion in school history. The Royal Lion pack 2-5 pack ran an incredible 16 second split with Collin Hook (12:01), Daniel Isely (12:04), Ian Kissick (12:06) and Ben Capriola (12:17). Josh Beard (12:25) and Foster Bertrand (13:25) also ran lifetime bests to break into the all-time program list.

Congratulations to Coach Jake Reese and Katrina Coach McIntosh for an outstanding season. This marks the fifth boys team and the third girls team to qualify for the State Meet under Coach Reese’s tenor as head coach.
