Meet Recap

On Saturday, September 26 the Royal Lions traveled to the Oakhurst Forest Preserve to compete in the Aurora Central Catholic Charger Classic. Although the boys team has been a regular participant in the meet for the past 15 years, this marked the first time that Rockford Christian competed in the large school “gold” division race.

The Rockford Christian team finished 5th out of 16 schools (and 144 runners) with 179 point total. The team’s total time of 79:06 (a 15:49 per runner average) is a program record for the Oakhurst course.

Neuqua Valley (#2 ranked 3A) won the meet scoring just 39 points. Patrick Wolak of Neuqua Valley who took the individual title in a time of 14:54.8 narrowly defeating Rockford Christian co-captain Nick Monkemeyer (Sr.) who ran 14:55.0.

Pack running was the theme on the day for the rest of the Rockford Christian harriers. The Royal Lion 2-3-4 were tightly clustered with just a 4 second split, and all three dipped under the sixteen-minute barrier for the first time this fall. Riley Wells (Fr.), Josiah Vogel (So.), and Ethan Volk (Sr.) finished in 15:52, 15:54, and 15:56 respectively. The 5-6-7 runners had a 10 second split between Jack Kurtz (Jr.) 16:26, Noah Wells (Jr.) 16:33, and Andy Volk (Fr.) who closed out of the top 7 in 16:36.
