Meet Recap

On Saturday, September 5, 2015 the Rockford Christian boys traveled to Oregon High School to compete in a 22 team invitational.

The Royal Lions unofficially won the non-scored meet defeating conference competitor Burlington Central 46 to 99 in the raw tally. Team co-captain Nick Monkemeyer (Sr.) won the individual title over the hilly and wet 3 mile terrain at Park West in a time of 15:58.1 out of the 111 man field. He outdistanced conference rival Brayden Hamblim of Rock Falls by 14 seconds.

The Rockford Christian 2-7 pack all finished within the top 20. Josiah Vogel (So.) took 8th place medal honors running a time of 17:19. Freshman Riley Wells’ time of 17:24 was good enough for a 9th place medal, as well. Ethan Volk (Sr.), Noah Wells (Jr.) and Jack Kurtz (Jr.) closely trailed the medal finishers in 13-14-16 places. Andy Volk (Fr.) earned his varsity letter placing 19th.

The Rockford Christian JV squad likewise dominated the open race. Unfortunately, the meet organizers were unable to provide accurate places and times for this race at the conclusion of the event. Will Mecklenburg (Jr.) was the top RC finisher entering the shoot around 5th place. Nick Capriola (Fr.), Josh Honkamp (Fr.), Cal Granite (Fr.), and co-captain John Holliday (Sr.) all looked to have finished within the top 15 and should have received awards. Team chaplain Grant Franseen (Sr.) and Toby McIntosh (So.) were also within the top 25 finishers.

In the 1.5 mile middle school race it was all Rockford Christian yet again. 8th grader Carter Fryer won the individual race. And the middle school boys squad, coached by Jake Reese and Katrina McIntosh, easily won the team contest with 3 additional runners in the top 10.

It was an all-around great day for the Rockford Christian program.

The Rockford Christian boys will compete next at the 28th First to the Finish Invitational at historic Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday, September 12. It will be the team’s first venture into the 2A division. The Royal Lions expect to compete against DyeStat ranked 2A teams #5 Yorkville, #9 Vernon Hills, #10 Belvidere North, #11 Metamora, #18 Normal University, and #24 Sterling along with around 40 additional schools. The meet will be an excellent test for the thus far undefeated 2015 Rockford Christian cross country team.
